Exploring Paints

Paint is an important part of nursery life and children at all ages and stages of development are encouraged to use paint in a variety of different ways from early mark making to exploring colours and how they can be changed. We actively encourage the children to get messy and provide a variety of tools and resources for the children to use when painting so that they are able to test out their own ideas and find out what works and what doesn’t. Paint can support a number of learning areas across the Early Years Foundation Stage such as looking at shapes and patterns (mathematics) to giving meaning to the marks that are made (Writing) whilst also supporting Physical Development in holding tools and using them for a purpose. We display children’s work through out the setting and encourage the children to talk about their creations and the process used to make them. Here are some pictures from our nursery of our children joining in with different painting activities.
